Mario Grows Up, Shuns Beef With Ne-Yo

A very excited Mario stopped by AOL Music’s New York studios recently to play tracks from his upcoming third album. We’re talking sheer leaping-out-of-his-chair-and-exclaiming-’That’s the sh*t!’-when-his-favorite-cut-comes-on excited. He also didn’t hold back when asked about the breakout success of another singer. “I respect Ne-Yo,” Mario said of his collaborator on ‘I Don’t want to know’ and ‘Let Me Love You.’ “I think he’s very talented, but you gotta have your own swagger. “Everywhere I see him, he’s saying he wished he kept the songs for himself. But it wouldn’t have been the same. The passion I have for them would be totally different from [his]. He portrayed it as if [the songs] didn’t belong to me, as if I didn’t do them joints. Sometimes you gotta let go and let the past be the past, bro.”Yet Mario insisted there’s no beef between the two, noting that they worked together again on the songs ‘If.’ The 20- year-old is now focused on making his own household name: “On this album, I’m introducing my full name, Mario Barrett, to add a whole ‘nother vibe to where I’m going. I want my fans to feel more personal with me, because we’ve grown together.”

(Page 1) 1. I don’t think Ne-Yo meant it in a nasty way, i mean he did write the songs and he can respond however he wants, but he was sayin’ that he should’ve kept the songs bcuz they blew up and as Ne-yo puts it was “in his own words” and he can relate to the songs. Mario’s over reactin’ a little.Brittany at 9:00PM on Oct 24th 20062. mario is over reactingtamera at 7:12AM on Oct 25th 20063. I don’t think Mario is overreacting. There are lots of people who write songs for other artists and you don’t hear them going around broadcasting to everyone that it was their song and saying they should have kept the song for themself. He gave the songs to Mario so he needs to let it go. Monique at 9:05AM on Oct 25th 20064. Both Mario and Ne-Yo are talented. Ne-Yo gave the songs to Mario to sing and became jealous because of its success. Mario’s style is different and I believe he sung the song better that Ne-Yo would have. His style and confidence wasn’t as developed yet. Ne-Yo should relax a bit.GeQ31 at 10:11AM on Oct 25th 20065. Hell yeah Ne-yo needs to let it go…he just has to let it be known that he wrote the songs.. whats the purpose..Mario is right and not over reacting.Move on Ne-yo!!!Terri at 10:14AM on Oct 25th 20066. MARIO NEED TO STOP PLAYING!!HE JUST MAD BECAUSE NE-YO SING, LOOK, AND IS BETTER THAN HIM!!!!!!!!!!!!!GET AT ME!!!!*THE WORLD IS MIND AND SO IS NE-YO*Ti-Anna Webb at 11:06AM on Oct 25th 20067. I dont think Ne-Yo is better than Mario. They both have totally different styles from each other. Ne-Yo is making a big deal out of nothing and if i were in Mario’s shoes i would feel the same way. Okay you want credit for writing the songs you got it now what do you want?               AOL@Music News Blog © 2007 AOL LLC. All Rights Reserved.
